Holiday Rock

Holiday Rock is a sweet, a candy, for those of us here in the British Isles, one either loves it with reminiscence – or hates it with gusto.  It is the tubular stick of solid sugar, striped colourfully on the outside and, often, carrying wording through its solid interior – the wording being the name of the seaside town where it was bought.

Glastonbury Rock, by contrast, cannot be touched, tasted and seen!  How so? How strange!

Well, one needs to dig deep into the mud of Somerset to really feel and understand this kind of rock.  Of course, it is a kind of Holiday Rock and it evokes smiles and happiness in reminiscences after-glowing over many years, for some.  As with more normal rock, describing its constituents brings in a wide range of types and varieties of cultural influence, performers and artists; Glastonbury rock then is a kind of music, an audio experience, with all kinds of strands running through it.

For our part, we have decided that it is time to break off, find a rock to sit on and ponder the world as we see it.  We are taking a holiday where we will go to a rock beach; sit in the sun (we hope) on rocks we have not yet seen; and gaze around us in relaxed and careless enjoyment.  We may, during our time there, as the need grows in us, search for inspiration, wondering what we could do with the resources we have around us – rocks and stones - and then begin it all over again!

Happy holiday
